Introduction

I think it appropriate that the city of Edinburgh derives it's name from a more ancient language which translates to "City of Eden". Robert Louis Stevenson described the city as 'having two faces, side by side'. It is ancient, perpetually dark and gothic, and steeped in tradition. At the same time, it is the setting for a vibrant culture that celebrates the arts, history and innovation. It is a truly unique place in the world, and I feel incredibly lucky to have spent so much time within it. This guide is the culmination of my experience as a foreigner living in this timeless city, and I hope that it makes your time there - whether long or short - a memorable one.
